Gift baskets are a popular gift item for many occasions
besides greeting cards. Not many people find purchasing a
gift basket a cheap affair. To avoid this, you can make
your own gift basket. This would allow you to personalized
its contents besides saving money. Another advantage of a
gift basket as a present is its suitability and
adaptability for any occasion and recipient. So you can
give a hand made gift basket when you attend a baby shower
or a housewarming party.
Needless to say, it will cost you much less than a
readymade basket off the shelf. You can make a gift basket
to suit any occasion from a baby shower to a housewarming
party.
The best way to go about making a gift basket is to start
with the theme. Select the theme which is best for the
occasion and according to the recipient's choice. Once
you've decided on the theme all you have to do is collect
the items and arrange them in the basket artistically. If
the person is fond of movies, you can pick a favorite
picture, movie passes or some movie treats and wrap them in
a popcorn bucket. If you are going to a child's birthday
party you can fill a paint bucket with a coloring book, a
paint set and paint brushes. The secret lies in conjuring
up a container which is both inexpensive and something the
recipient can use again.
Your basket and its content need not be expensive
to be catchy. Visit local thrift stores that have a wide
range of choices of inexpensive trinkets and baskets. These
things are also available at discount or dollar stores.
Special bags and wrappings from craft stores give your
basket a professional touch. All you have to do is to use a
hairdryer whose heat would give your package a great look.
Use ribbons and tags for wrapping and decorating your
basket.
The first step towards assembling your basket is putting a
layer of newspaper or Styrofoam at the bottom of the
container. This layer would allow you to give a
professional appearance to your gift, heighten the contents
and hold them without fear of slipping from the bottom if
the container has partitions. Then use colorful tissue
paper, or shredded paper for that matter to cover the first
layer. Arrange the contents inside the basket in ascending
order, with the smallest item in the front. After finishing
this steps, wrap the basket in cellophane, tie ribbons and
then attach tags. You would be amazed what you had
accomplished when you see the first product.
Now it is time to assemble the gift basket. First put a
newspapaer or Styrofoam at the bottom of the basket, bucket
or container. This helps to raise the contents and gives
the basket an impressive look. Then spread a layer of
tissue paper or shredded paper to cover the first layer.
While aranging the items see that the smallest ones come in
front and the bigger ones are at the back. After putting
everything in it, wrap it with cellophane. Tie the ribbons
making neat bows and put the tag. You will see that the
finished product looks as good as the gift basket in the
market, if not better. Plus, your recipient will appreciate
your thoughtfulness and insight. It just might become such
a hit that your friends start asking you to make gift
baskets for them as well.
